Arcadiz Telecom and SecureLink showcase a interworking solution allowing for dynamic end-to-end packet-optical provisioning

Arcadiz Telecom and SecureLink have developed a joint interworking showcase of an end-to-end provisioning, control, and traffic engineering solution encompassing heterogeneous packet- and optical ROADM-networks. This interworking solution results in increased service provisioning velocity and a network that automatically allocates the optical transport resources to the actual service demand.

The showcase consists of Juniper MX routers over an ADVA FSP3000 Optical ROADM network. Through the command line of the MX routers it is possible to provision dynamically an optical path in the FSP3000 ROADM optical network. The provisioning is demonstrated both with alien wavelengths and transponder based wavelengths.

Most of the world’s traffic packet-based, protocols deployed today are often still based on algorithms designed to obtain the shortest path in the network for packet traversal and do not take into account additional metrics, which can further decrease the network performance. GMPLS not only provides the packet switching but also switching in time slot domain (TDM), wavelength domain (DWDM), and space domain (fiber).  As such GMPLS is a significant and challenging concept for next generation data and optical networks enabling a seamless interconnection and convergence of new and legacy networks by allowing end-to-end provisioning, control and traffic engineering even when the start and the end nodes belong to heterogeneous networks.

Design-build-and service made-to-measure solutions

Jos Vermeylen, CEO of Arcadiz Telecom, said, “We are excited to work with SecureLink bringing together our respective innovative approaches that allow for optimal utilization of network resources and cost-efficient delivery of bandwidth on demand. Together with SecureLink, like Arcadiz Telecom a long-standing partner of Juniper Networks en ADVA Optical Networking, we succeeded in building a fully compatible GMPLS-solution based on market-leading vendors.”
As service providers continuously develop new services that often require more efficient network infrastructure, GMPLS will play an ever larger role in the solution. GMPLS facilitates network and service scalability and reliability while at the same time it provides bandwidth management and traffic engineering capabilities over different networks.
