The Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden, Belgium (near Mechelen) needed a new security solution urgently: a number of its PCs were infected with the Conficker worm, which is notoriously hard to remove. Within just a few months, the worm infected an estimated 15 million computers running Windows. One of the possible consequences was blocked user accounts. The security already in place at the Imelda Hospital did not offer sufficient protection against the worm and had no options for its quick removal. The Belgian hospital accordingly decided to take the advice of its integration partner, SecureLink, to switch to Trend Micro's Smart Protection Network a day later. The solution was successful; the Conficker worm had been removed from all the infected computers in just one night. The desktops and servers now have proactive protection against viruses, spyware and other threats.
