Jan De Nul in a Nutshell

People and vessels, that are the driving forces behind Jan De Nul Group. Thanks to the approximately 5 000 employees and the ultra-modern fleet on which they are deployed, today the group ranks at the top of the international dredging and marine related industry. These people, together with a range of supporting departments are the reason why Jan De Nul Group is able to perform large-scale projects to the client’ satisfaction, whether this concerns a Palm Island in Dubai or a the largest waste water treatment plant in Europe.

The Challenges:

Due to the fact that the businesses of JDN Group are scattered around the globe, maintaining flexible and secure ways to communicate and work is quite the challenge. Employees on ships and temporary remote offices need access to central applications, internet, e-mail, … It is even more a challenge to grant these types of access in a secure manner. This requires a central passing through the HQ in Aalst. On its turn, this can only be done with the help of compression and acceleration solutions. This is where Juniper Networks comes in.

JDN Group’s IT department did an extensive investigation of all possible solutions available on the market and eventually chose Juniper Networks for its outstanding performance on levels such as acceleration, manageability and performance.

Juniper Networks could prove its outstanding advantage on acceleration of online satellite communication, still a difficult way of providing accelerated online data. Juniper Networks has developed a proprietary feature that is able to reconstruct lost packets in satellite communication. The flexible and extreme manageability of the Juniper Networks firewalls was also a major influence in the process.

It was only logic to SecureLink that one of our technical staff flew over to Dubai to implement the first projects. Later on, preparations could be made and most of the implementation was done on ships in Belgium. The architecture of the solution was set up in such a way that no physical presence of technical staff was needed in case of troubleshooting in projects abroad.

Quotes“We searched for a tailor made solution for our particular needs. Trustworthy, performant and stable solutions in an affordable package. This project was no doubt unique in our branch and has brought happiness to many of our abroad staff. They are now able to maintain communication with friends and family during the months of absence abroad. We are happy to say that SecureLink delivered.” Johan Van Parys – It Operations Manager Jan De Nul Group.
